Contact Paper Can Really Change The Look Of Your Kitchen

In this article about Contact Paper, we hope to share with you the many aspects that this important subject has to offer you.

When I was growing up we lived in an old farm house on a one hundred and sixty acre dairy farm. The house had been remodeled over the years. Every so often my mother would get a whacky idea about how to redecorate. She would also plan intense spring and fall cleaning days. My mom worked in the food service at a local university. She would have off during the summer and each of the semester breaks and holiday breaks. This would be when the major cleaning would be planned.

For some reason the shelves in the cupboards were painted red. There was no sign of anything else ever being red in that kitchen. One year mom decided that the shelves should be covered in contact paper. She assigned this task to my sister and I. First we needed to take everything out of the cabinets and wash the shelving. The shelves were attached in the cabinets so they could not be removed. After washing out the cabinets we were to measure the contact paper and then place it down on the shelves. This did not seem like such a difficult task, however back then the contact paper is not as easy to handle as it is today. Contact paper is a liner that has adhesive on the back. Some of it is made out of vinyl and others are made out of paper. The backing has a cover on that is pulled off to expose the adhesive. Also if you were not careful there would be air pockets and creases forming. My sister and I had quite a struggle with the first few shelves. The contact paper that mom bought was the vinyl kind and it had a strong smell to it. It also had huge yellow daisies on it. She had purchased the rolls of paper on sale so there were many of them. Once we were done with the shelves she had us clean our dresser drawers and use the contact paper to line the bottom of the drawers.

I never did understand lining shelves and drawers. I was very surprised a few days ago because I received a call from my sister. She told me that she was using contact paper to line her drawers and that reminder her of our spring cleaning project. I could not believe that she still lines her drawers. She said she has always done this because our mom did. I have never felt it necessary to line our dresser drawers.
